Black and Gray
Poetry by: W. Dire Wolff 1997

The night loomed ahead
I saw tomorrow
Appear in the morning
I saw yesterday
As midnight kissed me with sorrow
And nobody mentioned
The way she cried
Tears that fell in vain
As I walked up the stairs
She was there on the platform
I left her crying
I left her alone
For the night’s time was calling me
Calling me
Like an endless tape loop
People fell beside me
Ruin was there
Ruin cursed in broken promises
In kisses and empty...
Empty nothing
That dances in the morning
Kisses the sunrise
Forgotten girls
That forgot me
Before I ever saw them
They walked away
Like I was nothing
Kissed me in empty nothing
Took me in dark corners
Where black and gray finds me.
