My Mona Lisa
by: W. Dire Wolff 1997

I’m going to paint me my Mona Lisa
With every brush in blue
The way she moves
The way she shines
The way she lingers
Every smile
Every eyelash
Every memory
Will settle lightly in that hue.

The blue of her hair in darkness
Shimmer of blue dress in the night
Her cigarette
Her finger nails
Her lighter
Every breath
Every exhale
Every moment
Will fall in shadows from blue lights.

I’m going to paint my Mona Lisa
Like a photograph toned in blue
She will seem sweet
She will seem soft
She will look tender
Like a raindrop
Like a maple leaf
Like a cherry flower
So that others will want to know her too.

I’ll paint my memory of Mona Lisa
Standing so fine and pretty by the stairs
Perfect smile
Perfect eyes
Perfect body
With Laughter
And Smiles
She was Waiting
With blue lights shining on her hair.
